Observational analysis reveals strong correlations across WHOQOL-BREF domains in quarantined COVID-19 patients, indicating areas for targeted psychological support.
BACKGROUND: The spread of COVID-19 has profoundly affected global socioeconomics and mental health. Developing countries have also been affected, such as Indonesia. In many countries, health protocols have been implemented that require the public to isolate themselves at home or in quarantine facilities if they have COVID-19 symptoms. This study develops a descriptive profile of quarantined people based on their Quality of Life (QoL). Each QoL domain is examined to identify any correlations with age.METHODS: A total of 45 patients were isolated in the COVID-19 emergency hospital for a month in May 2021. Patients were interviewed online with the World Health Organization QoL Abbreviation (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire (Indonesian version). The variables used are general, physical, psychological, and social relationships, and environmental aspects, according to the WHOQOL-BREF.RESULTS: The results showed statistically significant correlations between the total QoL and the five QoL domains, i.e., the general QoL domain (r=0.821; P=0.000), the physical QoL domain (r=0.728; P=0.000), the psychological QoL domain (r=0.828; P=0.000), the social-relationship QoL domain (r=0.670; P=0.000), and the environmental QoL domain (r=0.684; P=0.000).CONCLUSIONS: This research will provide a framework for local health care systems to provide moral support to people affected by COVID-19. It is expected that, in the future, remarkable QoL instruments will arise to address the impact of COVID-19 on public health.
