Rural populations, particularly in developing countries, have long shown interest in off-grid solar PV systems for their ability to provide clean and affordable electricity. However, these systems often face limitations in meeting significant demands such as fans, lights, and cell phone recharging due to restricted capabilities and inadequate battery storage. To address this challenge and promote energy independence in rural areas, a peer-to-peer (P2P) solar energy exchange network is proposed, leveraging AI capabilities within the digital economy. This article explores the potential of AI-enabled peer-to-peer solar energy sharing systems, focusing on their ability to supplement current solar power infrastructure and meet the energy demands of remote areas effectively. The proposed system, built on a three-part Internet of Things (IoT) framework, facilitates automatic solar energy sharing among interconnected systems, ensuring affordability and efficiency. Feasibility studies conducted on the P2P energy exchange network reveal promising results. The AI-powered system has increased community energy independence by 13.67% and reduced energy consumption by 12.20%, demonstrating its potential to enhance the overall life cycle of rural energy systems. This innovative approach not only addresses energy challenges but also contributes to sustainable development and improved quality of life in remote areas within the digital economy context.
