The article examines the procedural form of legal proceedings in the preparation of a case for trial, with a view to establishing the specificity of the manifestation of the form at a particular stage of criminal proceedings. To address this issue, the general content of the concept of procedural form is examined, as well as the elements of criminal procedure that create this form. The various perspectives on the form of the stage of preparation of a criminal case and its constituent elements are presented. The analysis encompasses the opinions of scholars from both the Soviet era and the modern period. The author's perspective on the specificity of the procedural form in the reviewed stage, its manifestations and features in comparison with the general understanding of the form is presented.
