Background and Aims: Monitoring the depth of anesthesia using Minimum Alveolar Concentration (MAC) or Bispectral Index (BIS) allows for individualized anesthesia management by adjusting drug administration based on the patient's level of arousal. This study aims to compare the effects of these two methods on hemodynamic stability and recovery outcomes during laparoscopic surgeries. Sixty patients undergoing Methods: elective laparoscopic surgeries under general anesthesia were enrolled in this double-blind observational prospective randomized study and allocated into two groups. Hemodynamic parameters and recovery characteristics were compared. The depth of anesthesia was monitored using BIS in group B (n = 30) and using MAC in group M (n = 30). There was no signicant difference in hea Results: rt rate at all time points except at end of port placement (p=0.03) and at 10 minutes after extubation (p=0.005) HR was higher in group M then group B. There was no signicant difference in mean arterial pressure at any time point except it was signicantly lower in group M than group B at 15 minutes, 30 minutes and 60 minutes after port placement. MAC values were signicantly lower in group B compared to group M. The BIS values were signicantly lower in the group M compared with the group B. Time to eye-opening, time to extubation, discharge from PACU, sevourane consumption (4.40±2.06 minutes), (5.85±1.79 minutes), (1.68±0.27 hours), (15.83±7.97 ml) respectively in group B was signicantly lower than that in group M for same parameters respectively (6.33±2.73 minutes), (8.10±2.52 minutes), (1.98±0.15 hours), (20.97±8.51 ml). Titration of inhalational Conclusions: anaesthetic agent to maintain a BIS value in the range of 40- 60 during general anesthesia for laparoscopic abdominal/pelvic surgeries provide better hemodynamic stability and reduction in the consumption of volatile anesthetic agent along with rapid emergence and shorter stay in PACU.
