WHAT'S NEW?This first-of-its-kind nationwide analysis of the effectiveness of the Polish KOS-Zawał coordinated care program in reducing long-term cardiovascular risk among coronary artery disease patients yields promising results. The study reveals a significant reduction in statin discontinuation risk for post-AMI (acute myocardial infarction), post-percutaneous coronary intervention/coronary artery bypass graft, and all coronary artery disease patients within the program. However, the finding that 1 in 9 patients discontinues statin therapy in the coordinated care group highlights a gap between recommendations and their execution.Urgent system-wide interventions, including further refinement of the KOS-Zawał program, are essential to optimize the utilization of funds invested in this scheme. The implementation of digital solutions and a dedicated alerting system for prescribers and patients is recommended to address these challenges and improve overall patient outcomes.
