Objectives The main purpose of this research was to implement a paediatric ECG checklist and educational proforma in clinical settings to enhance the quality and documentation of paediatric ECG interpretation among junior doctors. Methods We performed a study with 25 junior doctors to assess the effect of a paediatric ECG checklist on ECG interpretation accuracy. The checklist included data on patients' age, heart rate, rhythm, intervals, and axis. We measured the doctors' confidence, documentation and accuracy in interpretation of ECG findings before and after the implementation of the checklist and educational proforma. Results The utilization of the checklist for interpreting paediatric ECGs had a significant impact on ECG accuracy, as evident from the improvement seen in the overall accuracy percentage from 67.8% to 89%. 64% of the junior doctors reported an increase in their confidence levels when interpreting paediatric ECGs after implementing the checklist Furthermore, the documentation percentage also experienced significant improvement, with an overall increase of 35.1%. Conclusion Implementing a paediatric ECG checklist supplemented with educational proforma in clinical settings is an efficient tool for improving the accuracy and consistency of ECG readings among junior doctors. This leads to better patient care and outcomes. Further studies with larger sample sizes would be required to confirm these results.
