To acquire stable self-mixing signals, self-mixing interferometry is the primary requirement for the measurement. This paper finds that “strange” self-mixing signals, which have an adverse effect on the self-mixing interferometry, are related to the injection current of the semiconductor laser based on the rate equation of the semiconductor laser and proposes a method of guaranteeing stable self-mixing interferometry. We believe the paper will be a milestone that is of a vital significance in consolidating the theoretical foundation of self-mixing interferometry and securing its application.
