Abstract A quantification method for the determination of nifurtimox, which is a chemotherapeutic agent for Chagas disease, in tablet formulations is described. Nifurtimox is dissolved or extracted using 1:1 water/acetonitrile (v/v). Separation was carried out by high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (HPLC–UV) using a C-18 reversed-phase column with isocratic elution. The method was validated according to the ICH guidelines for parameters such as linearity and precision. The detection limit of this method is as low as 25 ng mL−1, and this method yields highly reproducible results. No interference was detected in the chromatogram, and the method was validated by analyzing the tablets. The recoveries were close to 100%.
