This report uses data from the 2022 National Health Interview Survey to describe the percentage of adults who walked for leisure and transportation in the past 7 days by selected sociodemographic characteristics. Point estimates and corresponding confidence intervals for this analysis were calculated using SAS-callable SUDAAN software to account for the complex sample design of the National Health Interview Survey. Differences between percentages were evaluated using two-sided significance tests at the 0.05 level. Linear and quadratic trends by age group, family income, and education were evaluated using orthogonal polynomials. In 2022, 58.7% of adults walked for leisure in the past 7 days, with a higher prevalence among Asian non-Hispanic adults than Black non-Hispanic, other and multiple-race non-Hispanic, and Hispanic adults. Walking for leisure increased with increasing family income and education level. In 2022, 16.2% of adults walked for transportation; men (17.3%) were more likely than women (15.0%) to walk for transportation.
