Theatre of unrealistic direction: theory and practice of experimental workshop of theatrical research (EKMATEDOS)

The purpose of the article is to reveal the general concepts and problems of work in the direction of non-realistic theatre on the example of the practical activities of the Experimental Workshop of Theatrical Research (EKMATEDOS), which was patented by the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Academy of Performing Arts. The research methodology includes comparative and critical analysis, as well as interdisciplinary and complex methods used to investigate the structure of the non-realistic theatre, its philosophical and aesthetic background and principles. The scientific novelty consists in a complex approach to the analysis of the theatre of the non-realist direction not only based on theoretical concepts, but rather based on one's own practical experience, highlighting new perspectives for the development of this direction and understanding its historical context. The article examined practical experience within the framework of the experimental workshop and the significance and influence of non-realistic theatre on modern Ukrainian theatre art. Practical challenges related to directing, acting, and scenography are revealed. The conclusions of the article consider the meaning and possibilities of the theatre of non-realistic direction. The recorded and analysed principles of practical work in this direction of theatrical art help to reveal its potential as a means of expression and reflection on complex and topical topics. Such an analysis emphasises the importance of non-realist theatre research both for the academic environment and for practicing theatre professionals. Mastering the skills of non-realistic theatre is a challenge for actors because of several key aspects such as emotional intensity, technical aspects and philosophical aspects of drama. Dramaturgy of a non-realistic direction raises questions about the meaning and absurdity of life, allowing actors to experiment with the form of the performance and create alternative realities.
