The article analyzes the development of the labor and everyday life of persons released from prison in the Russian Empire in the 19th — early 20th centuries. It is proposed to distinguish three periods in this process, characterized by different goal setting, subject composition and content. The formation of activities aimed at providing assistance in the labor and everyday life of released convicts is considered in the context of the development of patronage in Russia as an institution of patronage for persons who have served sentences associated with imprisonment.
