A debate on intersectionality in educational science seeks a connection with theoretical and empirical find-ings from inclusion research in schools. What has been neglected so far is the investigation of mutual inter-penetrations and interdependent relationships between categories of difference, in particular with the struc-tural category of dis*ability, and thus an analysis of how intersectional disadvantages become effective in situ. Following on from the concern of relating inclusion and intersectionality, the article offers the following: Based on the procedure for determining special educational needs, the construction of it and the internal relationship between the difference categories race, class, gender and dis*ability are analysed. The main finding is that ability is an intersectional category behind which other categories of difference are rendered invisible. The aim of the analysis is to establish intersectional inclusion research that also stands up to em-pirical scrutiny.
