We use magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of the interaction between a magnetised Mercury and the solar wind under different orientations of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). The configuration of Mercury’s magnetosphere and especially the location of the night-side reconnection site strongly depend on the orientation of the IMF. The motion of the electrons is studied with a test particle code which integrates the equation of motion in the guiding-centre approximation from the fields of the MHD simulation. We inject many electrons in the nightside of Mercury’s environment with different initial energies. We then study the electron’s energisation and precipitation on Mercury’s surface.
