Russia will seek to exploit BRICS chairmanship

Significance Russia previously viewed BRICS as a platform for cooperation with other large emerging powers but now looks to the expanded grouping to strengthen its position in the escalating confrontation with the West and to mitigate the impact of Western sanctions. Moscow is ramping up BRICS diplomacy to an unprecedented level, seeking to create a non-Western global community. Impacts Moscow will support Turkey’s stated desire to join the BRICS. Russia’s bilateral relations with member states will continue to play a greater role in its foreign policy than the BRICS forum.
