Abstract Introduction Oil and Gas (O & G) sector is one of the most hazardous process industries in which the likelihood of both safety and health hazards is very high. Like other process industries, risk assessment, standard operating procedure, tool box talk, behavioral safety analysis and all other proactive accident control measures are going on. But still the accident keeps happening. The incident data clearly shows there is a need for re-engineering required in controls for Oil & gas sector. Methods The leading O & G drilling companies especially in Middle East Oman - 2022 incident data has been collected and the interview has been done with the respective contractors, site engineers and HSE officers. Based on these analysis, a spreadsheet has been prepared to understand the existing gaps and required improvement for the oil and gas sector Results Based on the analysis it is evident that rather than other hierarchy of control, more engineering based controls to be identified. Discussion The hierarchy of control has been applied in Safety Engineering to identify the effective control measures. The 2022 incident data shows more physical injuries and the incident investigation report says the following reasons: incompetency, non complaint and unsafe working environment. Conclusion The incident analysis indicates that there is need for more supervision, training requirements and controls over unsafe working environments required in oil and gas drilling companies.
