(Abstracted from JAMA Network Open 2024;7:e2350825) Neuraxial analgesia and anesthesia during cesarean delivery improves outcomes for both mother and child compared with general anesthesia, and has been widely adopted to decrease anesthesia-related maternal morbidity and mortality. General anesthesia has been shown to be associated with higher rates of cardiac arrest, aspiration of gastric contents, airway management complications, surgical site infections, postpartum hemorrhage, and maternal mortality.
