An experimental analysis was conducted on the cause of cracking in the angle steel of a 220 kV transmission tower using macroscopic inspection, chemical composition analysis, microstructure inspection, and other testing methods. The results show that the angle steel did not have a groove before welding with the filler material at the notch bending position. Severe incomplete penetration defects were formed during the welding process, resulting in a large stress concentration at the defect site. This is the main reason for its corrosion and fracture. It is suggested to focus on checking for cracks during welding construction and strengthening the inspection of the welding quality of the angle steel of the transmission tower during the infrastructure stage for the bending part of the angle steel notch.
