Introduction: This abstract presents a prospective study conducted by in the Department of Immuno-haematology & Transfusion Medicine (IHTM) at SMS Blood Centre, Sawai Man Singh Medical College & Hospital, Jaipur, Rajasthan. The study aims to comprehensively evaluate quality control parameters for Single Donor Platelets (SDP) obtained through apheresis. Aims & Objective: The study aims to assess the quality of Single Donor Platelets (SDP) obtained via apheresis by evaluating various quality control parameters. The primary objective is to ensure that SDP units meet the established quality standards for patient transfusions. Over a 12-month period, the r Materials & Methods: esearch team selected and analyzed 48 SDP units at random. Visual examination was conducted to identify RBC contamination and discoloration. Swirling scores were assigned to assess platelet quality. Additional evaluations included apheresis-PC volume, platelet count, pH levels, and contamination levels of residual leukocytes and red cells. The study adhered to quality control norms set by DGHS and DCA and utilized advanced equipment like Spectra Optia, Amicus, and COM.TEC for assessment. Visual examination revealed minimal RBC contamination in Results: only 2 of the 48 SDP units, and limited discoloration was observed in just 1 unit. Swirling scores indicated satisfactory ratings. The mean apheresis-PC volume was 204.9 ml, with a platelet count of 3.309 × 1011. The pH levels consistently fell within the permissible range of 6.5. Contamination levels of residual leukocytes and red cells were within acceptable boundaries, measuring 2.307 x 109/ L and 0.02 x 1012/L, respectively. Conclusion:This study underscores the importance of high-quality platelet transfusions for effective patient care. By adhering to stringent quality standards, the research team ensures superior quality platelet products and patient safety. The comprehensive assessment and adherence to recommended norms reect the commitment to excellence in platelet production and quality control. The ndings highlight the dedication of the team towards enhancing patient outcomes and the overall success of the blood centre.
