Purpose: Test and evaluation (T&E) from a systematic engineering perspective is becoming increasingly crucial for the successful research and development (R&D) of advanced and complex weapon systems, such as drones. Therefore, this study presents a methodology for selecting standardized operational T&E items using a scientific approach to conduct successful T&E.BRMethods: A new methodology was applied to select items for the operational T&E of military drones. First, items were identified through relevant laws, regulations, and prior research. Second, items were derived through Delphi analysis and expert interviews. Third, items were validated and selected through factor analysis and importance analysis.BRResults: Applying this methodology, we presented an example of selecting standardized operational T&E items for military drones based on past T&E cases.BRConclusion: This paper presents a methodology for deriving operational T&E items that can be used in the future based on past T&E cases and future technology forecasts, as well as specific standardized evaluation items that can be used in future military drone R&D.
