Metal complexes of mixed ligands were prepared from a derivative of Cefepime and the amino acid glycine. The suggested structures of metal complexes of Cefepime derivatives and glycine with Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2, Zn+2 and Cd+2 results were characterized by the Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, UV–visible spectroscopy and 1HNMR spectrum (300 MHZ, DMSO-d6), micro elemental analysis, magnetic moment, conductivity etc. The obtained results suggested that Cefepime reacted with metal ions as a bidentate ligand through the nitrogen of the β-lactam thiozolidine and carboxylate ion forming a five-membered ring and from oxygen and amine group of glycine as mixed ligand complexes. The shapes of the formed complexes were shown to be distorted octahedrals. Except for the L(gly)Co complex, it is tetrahedral. All the metal complexes showed significant antibacterial activity compared to the free ligand. The antibacterial test of the L(gly) Co complex showed higher activity than other metal complexes against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive), Escherichia coli (Gram-negative) and Candida albicans.
