Revised Editions of the Prajnaparamitahrdaya and Xīn jīng

The commonly used Sanskrit and Chinese editions of the Heart Sutra have both been found to be faulty or misread in minor but important ways (Nattier 1992, Huifeng 2014, and Attwood 2015, 2018, 2020a, 2021a). These faults and misreadings have consistently been overlooked to the detriment of Heart Sutra studies. This article combines published observations to revise the standard Heart Sutra editions in both Sanskrit and Chinese. The Sanskrit text is fully parsable, possibly for the first time. The revised texts are accompanied by translations that reflect the epistemic hermeneutic proposed in Attwood (2022a).
