Background. Human echinococcosis is a widespread parasitic disease in Russia. This pathology causes serious damage to the liver and other organs, leading to a significant decrease in the quality of life of people, as well as requiring specialized treatment. Purpose. To evaluate current diagnostic and treatment problems of this category of patients, to compare the clinical effectiveness of interventions which used in practice for different localization of echinococcal cysts. Materials and methods. A retrospective analysis of the treatment results of 64 patients with primary echinococcosis of various localization. Results. This zoonosis is characterised by a number of features that make early diagnosis difficult and lead to the need for radical treatment, which requires a large amount of resources and leaves patients disabled for a long time. In addition, conventional treatment tactics are not always used in individual stages of treatment. Conclusion. To solve a number of problems, it is necessary to standardize the methods of examination and treatment of patients with echinococcosis, to create appropriate algorithms in order to minimize conditions for the development of complications and relapses. There is also a need for consensus regarding perioperative chemotherapy. At the same time, early diagnosis of echinococcosis will help to achieve better treatment results and shorter labor losses.
