The defect inversion technology based on guided waves can detect defects in plates and pipes, including the location and shape information. An ultrasonic guided wave defect inversion imaging method based on fluctuation fields is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the principle of beamforming (BF) imaging is derived, which is also implemented by using simulation software for defects inversion. Then, through the mapping relationship between BF and Fourier diffraction theorem (DT) in the frequency domain, the results of BF are transformed into DT images, and a clearer inversion image is obtained. The inversion results demonstrate that this method can accurately reconstruct the location, size and shape of the thinning defects in the aluminum plate more with high resolutions.
