The use of BLDC motors is preferred for electric two-wheeler applications because of their high efficiency, low maintenance, compact size, smooth operation, regenerative braking capability, high torque output, electronic control, and environmental friendliness. The performance of a brushless DC (BLDC) motor is significantly affected by selection of magnetic material of pole. The choice of magnetic material impacts various aspects of BLDC motor such as efficiency, output power, shaft torque, iron losses, cogging torque, flux density, weight, size, cost and overall motor performance. Two of the important parameters of permanent magnet materials are their energy density and maximum operating temperature, are considered in this study. This work elaborates the impact of various magnetic materials for poles on the performance parameters of BLDC motor such as output power, shaft torque, efficiency and iron losses. In this paper the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is carried on Outer Rotor BLDC Motor with different magnetic materials for poles. The results obtained from FEA will be quite helpful for researchers in selection of proper magnetic materials in the design of BLDC motor.
