The Ethics Code of the Catholic Psychotherapy Association (CPA) contains beautiful language that articulates Catholic theological, anthropological, and philosophical principles appropriate to the practice of psychotherapy. However, some of this language could have harmful implications for the members of the CPA and their clients without further clarification. We propose an addition to the ethics code of a “Caritas Clause,” where principles of the indiscriminate love of Christ can be more clearly delineated for the CPA membership.
