Background: Food impaction and potentially undiagnosed eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an area where follow-up data and guidelines regarding optional time of biopsy and management are incomplete and inconsistent. Patients with food impaction often present at inopportune hours where removal of the obstruction is the primary goal and follow-up and long-term management can be an afterthought for both patients and physicians.
