Background: Osteoporosis is the most common benign debilitating bone disease. Its management requires a demanding medication regimen over several years and lifestyle changes. Patient therapeutic education (PTE) aims to support the patient in their therapeutic approach. Objectives: The objective of our study was to evaluate the impact of therapeutic education for osteoporotic patients on diet and physical activity. Methods: This prospective study was conducted in the rheumatology department from August 2023 to November 2023, including patients who participated in the PTE program. Data collection was performed using a questionnaire filled out at the end of each PTE session and during the bone follow-up consultation. Results: We included 120 patients, with 91.6% women and 8.3% men. The sex ratio was 0.09. The average duration of the disease was 3 years. 73% of patients adjusted their diet through PTE, opting for a balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamins. 14% of patients believed they already had an adapted diet, and 13% reported difficulty adapting their diet. These patients were also being treated for gout or neoplasms of the breast, prostate, or colon. Regarding physical activity, 61% of patients chose walking, 11.6% joined a gym, and the remaining patients mentioned exercises not suitable for their situation. Conclusion: PTE plays a major role in the management of osteoporosis patients today, helping them better understand their disease and treatments, and fostering greater adherence to care to maintain or improve their quality of life. In our study, we observed a significant improvement in dietary practices and physical activity after PTE. REFERENCES: [1] Caroline Jeansolin.
