Mechanical and Functional Responses in Astrocytes Astrocytes respond to mechanical actuation changing their structure, mechanical properties and functional activity. A magneto-mechanical system simulates traumatic brain injury and stroke-induced substrate deformations in vitro. These time-evolving deformations lead to intertwined remodeling of actin cytoskeleton modulating the mechanical properties of the cell and activating Piezo1. These coordinated changes may influence the protective role of astrocytes for neighboring neurons. More details can be found in article number 2312497 by Daniel Garcia-Gonzalez and co-workers.
