In this paper, the influence of the number of blades on the flow characteristics and aeroacoustics performance of a forward impeller centrifugal fan used in a milling recovery vehicle is studied by numerical simulation. The results show that the total pressure of the forward centrifugal fan increases with the increase of the number of blades. When the number of blades is 18, the vortex loss caused by boundary layer separation in the impeller is relatively low. Under the design flow and small flow conditions, the total pressure efficiency of the fan first increases and then decreases with the increase of the number of blades. The noise analysis shows that the cochlear tongue and the surface of impeller runner near the volute outlet are the main sources of fan noise. The far field noise characteristics of the fan with 16 blades are better than those of the prototype fan. The discrete noise at the fundamental frequency of monitoring point B and monitoring point D is 6.25dB and 1.2dB lower than that of the original fan, respectively. The research results have a good guiding significance for the design and optimization of forward centrifugal fan.
