With the development of society and the increase of pressure in all aspects, people's dietary structure and defecation habits have been changed, making the incidence of functional constipation increase year by year, which brings great trouble to people's life.Although the symptoms of constipation are simple, the etiology is complex, the clinical diagnosis and treatment are extremely complicated, and the recurrence rate is high, so the research on functional constipation has received more and more attention. In this paper, we review the etiology and pathogenesis of functional constipation, its dialectical classification and therapeutic medication from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine by summarising the relevant literature, so as to serve as a reference for further clinical research.
