Monitoring coral reefs and seagrasses is a particular challenge for remote sensing technology due to the heterogeneity of spectral reflectance that occurs at different depths and material compositions in the water. This study uses the techniques to process Sentinel-2 multispectral data for creating a benthic map of the Con Dao archipelago, especially coral reefs and seagrass for management and monitoring their changing phenomena in the context of warming sea water due to climate change.Techniques to eliminate spectral reflection of light rays on the water surface, calculate depth invariant indices for classifying benthic organisms are used to create a benthic map including coral reefs and seagrasses with an overall accuracy of 79.66% and a kappa coefficient of 0.694.The distribution of coral, seagrass and sea sand depends heavily on the seabed topography in shallow water areas and the habitat of the underwater ecosystem in the study area. The results of this study are the premise for applying multispectral satellite data to study benthic organisms in shallow waters along the islands and coasts of our country.
