Background: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a major research hotspot in the field of bone regeneration in recent years and have been widely used in various studies.Among them, bibliometric analysis is a mature quantitative evaluation method of academic productivity. We used this objective approach to comprehensively analyze the literature in the field of osteoporosis and MSCs from July 2000 to 2023. Methods: The related literatures in the field of osteoporosis and MSCs from 2000 to July 2023 were searched in Web of Science database. After data collation, Graphpad, CiteSpace and VOSviewer software were used to visually analyze and count the related data. Results: A total of 3404 articles on osteoporosis and MSCs were included in the past 20 years, which generally showed an upward trend and are expected to peak by the end of 2023. China, the United States, South Korea, Germany and Italy were the top five countries with the highest productivity, and China was also the country with the most citations. In the number of publications, Bone ranked first, but the most influential was Stem Cell Research and Therapy, and jin, yan and rosen, clifford j., as the most prolific and cited writers, respectively, were core authors in the field. According to keywords co-occurrence and co-citation cluster analysis showed that the relationship between osteoporosis and MSCs as long as it focused on pathogenesis and treatment, emerging trends are the focus of future osteoporosis and mesenchymal stem cell research. Conclusion: This study analyzes the current research status of osteoporosis and MSCs, identifies the main contributors in this field in several aspects such as country, institution, and author, and deeply analyzes and discusses the development trend in this field, reveals the relationship between MSCs and the whole pathogenesis and treatment of osteoporosis, and provides a reference for research in this field.
