This study aims determine the most frequent learner errors in Korean expressions of consecutive events and identify the criteria for selecting the appropriate Korean expression of consecutive events, jamaja or neundaero in order to reduce learner errors. Unlike current approaches, the classification was based on the type of sentence. In declarative and interrogative sentences, it was found that consecutive expressions are selected depending on whether the relationship between the preceding clause and the following clause is intentional or unrelated and accidental. In imperative and propositional types, the choice of consecutive expressions depends on the type of verb. Based on these results, a novel consecutive event expression selection schema was created providing a new schematization of selection process for recurrence expressions.
