This study analyzes indirect speech acts of requests using a metonymy theoretical framework. The results of this study are as follows. Firstly, a scenario is a complex of conceptually adjacent elements. Utterance scenario provide access to utterance entailments but are limited by the lack of semantic and pragmatic information about direct speech acts. Secondly, the illocutionary Idealized Cognitive Models(ICM) of the request utterance constitute a framework for explicitly analyzing the complexity of speech acts through the interaction of semantic and pragmatic properties with non-verbal pragmatic principles. This aligns with the cognitive linguistic basis of the semantic-pragmatic continuum.
