Pseudo-history in South Korean Popular Culture

The dissemination of pseudo-history is primarily attributed to the contributions of pseudohistorians and the pseudographical works which they introduced. Yet, the proliferation of their assertions extends beyond mere academic circles; popular culture practitioners incorporating these pseudo-historical claims have markedly amplified the reach of pseudohistory. This chapter delineates the role of pseudographs within pseudo-history in Section 1 and explores the emergence of pseudo-history and its nationalist-driven works during the 1960s in Section 2. It further examines the consolidation and burgeoning social influence of pseudo-historians throughout the 1970s in Section 3. Section 4 provides an analysis of popular works influenced by pseudo-history in the early 1980s, while Section 5 focuses on works from the late 1980s and 1990s, a period marking the zenith of pseudo-history's impact. Conclusively, Section 6 assesses the contemporary implications of pseudo-history in Korea and proposes strategies for addressing its influence.
