Based on research on the historical data of sword dance, this paper compares the expression modes of < Royal Sword Dance > and < Tongyeong Sword Dance > to infer the commonalities and differences, thereby identifying the historical, cultural, and environmental background that flows beneath the culture of different sword dances. This study aims to provide an opportunity to understand and more broadly recognize the rich artistic heritage of Geommu.In the text, it was confirmed that < Royal Sword Dance > and < Tongyeong Sword Dance > have different modes of expression due to differences in 'environment' such as geography, space, and language. In addition, < Court Sword Dance > reflects 'Confucian political thought' and 'ritual and music thought', pursues harmony and stability, stands out for its formal beauty that follows formality, and has developed outward-looking dance moves. On the other hand, < Tongyeong Geommu > was influenced by the regional roughness and the small-scale gyobang and byeongseon, and the dance was small and sharp, and the artistic skills and introverted dance movements were developed.
