In this letter, we introduce a hybrid approach that integrates the fast dipole method (FDM) with physical optics (PO) for the analysis of electrically large objects. The FDM-PO method considers both the self-interaction of the method-of-moments (MoM) region and the matrix-vector multiplications (MVMs) involving both MoM and PO regions, which are accelerated by the FDM. By employing a straightforward Taylor's series expansion for the distance between two interacting equivalent dipoles in FDM-PO, the MVMs are effectively reformatted into an aggregation-translation-disaggregation scheme. Additionally, the equivalent dipole moment method (EDM) is utilized to fill the MoM impedance matrix for near-field pairs. Numerical demonstrations validate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method in comparison with the traditional method of moments-physical optics (MoM-PO) and the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA).
