Using a literature review, the article concludes that the displacement of oil by surfactants affects interrelated factors: by affecting the surface tension at the oil-water-rock interface, SAM adsorption occurs on the surface of pore channels, rock surface water and oil wetting changes, the oil layer is broken up and washed from the rock surface, the dispersion of oil in water stabilizes, the phase permeability of the porous medium changes, and finally, the forced displacement of oil by the water phase occurs.
