Over twenty-fold phase amplification was achieved in 300-m-thick LiNdP4O12 and Nd:GdVO4 lasers in the self-mixing interference scheme. The key event is the self-induced skew cosh Gaussian mode oscillation in the thin-slice solid-state lasers with wide aperture laser-diode pumping, which results in a pronounced self-mixing modulation effect through increased fluorescence-to-photon lifetime ratios and light amplitude feedback ratio to the laser. The nonlinear dynamics responsible for the high degree of phase amplification was also explored.
