Pediatricians often receive complains from the parents of pediatric patients that their children are not eating enough, especially home-cooked food.[1-3] When the pediatric physician asked how much money you spend buying processed food for your child daily, what about the quantity? The amount of money and food quantity is always a considerable portion of any economic class of the community.[4] There is no widescale approval for the safety regarding ready-to-eat meals. Nonetheless, fast food consumption globally is increasing and causing a lot of adverse health impacts.[5,6] Fast food is broadly sketched out as 'easily prepared processed food served in snack bars and restaurants as a quick meal or to be taken away'.[7] Factory-made diets, for example, bottled or canned conserved foods, bites, or bites, are also cogitated fast foods as described in thesauruses and databanks.[5,6] 'Fast foods include chips, soda, cookies, candy, breakfast cereals, bars, French fries, burgers, pizza, white flour baked goods and all other high-calorie, low-nutrient foods that people often eat multiple times daily'.[8] Fast foods usually encompass additional sweet corn syrup,[8] refined sugar,[9] man-manufactured sweetening means,[10] extra Na+ salt,[11] colouring proxies,[12] preservatives, especially phosphate origin[13] and other possible non-communicable diseases encouraging elements.[14,15] The synonyms of fast food include takeout, takeaway, carryout, junk food, convenience food, takeaway food, processed food, pre-packaged food, ready meal, TV dinner, ready-made meal, junk, snack food, take away, candy, frozen food, dehydrated food, unhealthy food, canned food and snacks. Fast food is consumed by all age groups[16] of both developed and developing countries[17] and even educated[18] and affluent communities who can afford nutritious, wholesome food.[19] Internationally, juvenile communities, principally growing children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), especially sub-Saharan Africa,[20] South Asian and Southeast Asian countries,[21] are undergoing a nutritional changeover in the practice of a histrionic transference in eating habits and choice coming out of their own national conventional food regime to a Westernised dietary programme.[22-25] The Westernised (American) foods are demarcated as high consumption of ultra-processed food, saturated fats, sucrose, polished and treated grains, alcohol, Na + salt. These foods are frequently rich in seasonings, stabilizes like chemicals. Additionally, eating and drinking practice converted to consume health hazardous foods and avoiding wholesome meals that contain a high quantity of fibres, such as fresh fruits, vegetables and avoidance freshly home-cooked food.[26] James et al. reported that 'poverty was not independently associated with fast-food access'. The bond between fast-food entree and race was statistically strongly associated with poverty (P < 0.0001).[27] Food selections are composite and manipulated by a range of features, so it is not continually stress free to sort healthy diets.[27] Individuals frequently prefer or desire to eat ready-to-eat meals instead of a wholesome diet behind that various motives or driving forces working.[28-31] Those include are stress-free accessibility,[32-34] expediency,[35] deliciousness,[36] highly busy employed both parents,[37-39] charming look,[40] memorable commercials,[41] minimum price[38] and aggressive marketing stratagems[42,43] are cogitated the foremost contributing factors for high consumption of ready to eat meals than wholesome (balanced) diets.[44,45] An additional study conducted in Mexico revealed that four aspects predisposed food access: the bulk of food store category, the obtainability of food inside the restaurants or cafe (e.g., options, diversity, amount, characteristics and cost), the advertising of diverse dietary choices and views and actualities of acquaintance to unwholesome and balanced diets.[46] Another study conducted by Gupta et al. 2019 reported a novel ellipsis 'JUNCS' foods, to cover an extensive array of conceptions interrelated to unwholesome diets [junk foods, ultra-processed foods, nutritionally inappropriate foods, caffeinated/coloured/carbonated foods/beverages and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs)].[44] 'Fast Food Genocide because most don't understand the depth and breadth of the harm as a large segment of our society eats a diet worse than the dangerous Standard American Diet'.[8] Research studies revealed that the high rate of eating and drinking low-priced, detrimental processed, pre-packaged, poor-quality diets raised a global public health issue, especially in LMICs, in the last 30–40 years.[47-51] One study conducted in São Paulo, Brazil, regarding food consumption showed that adult citizens in this city regularly consume fresh vegetables and fruits more than or equal to five times per week. Nevertheless, healthy foods (fruits and vegetables) amongst poorer communities were not associated with scarcer superstores and farmer's marketplaces.[52] However, pre-packaged or junk food cafeterias and hypermarkets were less likely to be in poorer communities in Brazil.[52] Nevertheless, multiple studies reported that the poverty-stricken neck of the woods gives more opportunities for appreciable ways to food stores that discourage healthful eating and drinking practices.[53-56] The cost of food remains a significant issue in eating and drinking nutritious, healthy dietary practices, particularly amongst poorer communities around the globe.[57,58] Healthy food prices are much higher than unhealthy high-energy condensed, saturated fat and low fibre-containing food in LMICs.[59-61] Adequate, wholesome, nutritious (balanced), low-calorie and high-roughage-containing food and drink were consistently correlated with more incredible prices.[58,62-65] Financial scarcity cannot ensure a balanced diet practice.[62,66] Energy-dense principal food grains (e.g., barley, bulgur, also called cracked wheat, farro, millet, quinoa, black, brown, red and wild rice, oatmeal, popcorn, whole-wheat flour, whole-grain breakfast cereals, whole-wheat bread, pasta or crackers) are much cheaper than per 100 calories containing fresh, high-density nutrient (minerals and vitamins), low-calorie, high dietary fibre comprising foods (e.g., fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, eggs, nuts, fresh animal-source foods, beans, pulses).[62,65,67-70] The rice price hike determines whether families and communities can buy other nutritious food in Bangladesh.[71,72] Similarly, low-priced old-style meals, such as tortillas and tamales, are consumed by impoverished, destitute communities because balanced, wholesome foods are highly pricey.[65,69] 'Rich people may have more eating options, but that's not stopping them from going to places like McDonald's or KFC'.[73,74] Fast-food consumption with concomitant increase of more body mass index,[75,76] weight gain, overweight, obesity,[77,78] the development of insulin resistance,[79] type 2 diabetes mellitus,[80] hypertension,[11,81] other features of cardiometabolic syndrome (MetS)[5,82] and increases the risk of death.[83,84] Therefore, the rise of fast-food eating and drinking practices around the globe is a public health fretfulness.[85,86] Educated community with a clear understanding of the harmful health effects eats and drinks processed foods.[87] Primary reasons for the consumption of unhealthy convenience foods are time constraints,[40,88] working parents, especially mother,[89] parental attitude and practice of purchasing junk and SSBs,[90] high-density fast-food outlets in the neighbourhood,[33,91] sex, palatability, enhanced online fast-food provision, eye-catching commercial, added educational burden, high-density traffic and inadequate frivolous services.[92] Other motives for eating and drinking junk food are gratification, sluggishness, companionship with peers, freedom and easy to get.[93,94] It has been reported that individuals who are aware of the health hazards of fast food, nonetheless, are unable to stop these unhealthy foods.[95,96] Professor (Dr) Tera Fazzino from the University of Kansas, USA, initially reported in 2019 that 'hyper-palatable foods'[97] have precise amalgamations of fat, sugar, Na+ salt and carbohydrates. Those are 'I. fat and Na+ (>25% kcal from fat and ≥0.30% Na+ by weight), II. Fat and simple sugars (>20% kcal from fat and >20% kcal from sugar) and III. carbohydrates and Na+ (>40% kcal from carbohydrates and ≥0.20% sodium by weight)'.[97] These ready-to-eat meals make individuals unnaturally gratified to consume more and more, and it became tougher to impede eating and drinking these unhealthy foods.[97] Hyperpalatable foods containing salt, fat, non-natural seasonings and synthetic sweeteners promote dopamine surge.[36] Dopamine is a neurotransmitter,[98] controls all emotional activities[99-101] and initiates the brain to reiterate a satisfying activity.[102] Thus, eating and drinking unhealthy pre-packaged foods is difficult to stop [Figure 1].Figure 1: Demonstrates the various additives found in fast foods which tend to raise the levels of dopamine (a neurotransmitter). This neurotransmitter controls emotional activities and reiterates the feeling of satisfaction making it difficult to stop consumption of fast foods. This gives time to accommodate new healthy eating and drinking practices and find healthy alternatives. Health authorities, both public and private, can initiate mass campaigns utilising all kinds of mass and social media regarding the adverse health consequences of consuming unhealthy fast food. Besides, health authorities' communities can take the lead regarding the importance of healthy food consumption and its ultimate health benefits. Public policymakers can consider and implement extra taxes or levies for fast food for consumers and retailers.[103,104] Furthermore, the government should impose laws on fast-food or convenience stores regarding the calorie value of these foods. Local and national health bodies should encourage junk food retailers to sell healthy foods. Even public authorities can think of tax holidays for those junk food retailers to stop fast-food selling and begin healthy food shops. Health professionals should create pressure to develop new policies to ensure that fast-food shops are not established within educational institutes or their neighbourhoods. Public health authorities should conduct more research on high fast-food habits. New laws should then be imposed to prevent fast-food shops from opening in those localities. Moveable farmers' markets should be established locally to easily access fresh fruits, vegetables, chicken, meats and many more healthy foods.
