The integration of photovoltaic (PV) systems with the electrical grid is a crucial step toward increasing the penetration of renewable energy sources. This paper presents a comparative assessment of photovoltaic-based diode-clamped multilevel inverters (DCMLIs), which are pivotal for efficient energy conversion and grid integration. We evaluate various configurations of DCMLIs in terms of efficiency, harmonic distortion, cost-effectiveness, and scalability. Through a combination of simulation and experimental methods, we identify optimal inverter designs that offer enhanced performance for different scales of PV installations. Our findings reveal that specific DCMLI configurations significantly reduce harmonic distortion and improve the overall efficiency of power conversion, thereby facilitating more reliable and robust integration of solar energy into the grid. The study provides valuable insights into the selection of appropriate inverter technology that aligns with the operational demands and economic considerations of modern PV systems.
