The purpose of this paper is to increase the low voltage ride through (LVRT) capabilities of wind power plants (WPPs) during various grid disturbances, such as line-to-ground and three-phase faults. This paper proposes Dandelion Optimizer (DO), an innovative method of optimization utilized to tune STATCOM controllers. The Dandelion Optimizer's (DO) performance was assessed against three well-known optimization algorithms: the commonly used Water Cycle Algorithm (WCA), the swarm-intelligence inspired Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and a hybrid WCA/PSO method. The simulation examines a 9MW wind power plant test system. To assess the efficacy of the proposed DO adjusted STATCOM, the authors use comprehensive simulations with the SimScape power system toolbox, which provides a robust and versatile framework for modelling and analysing power system dynamics. The comparative investigation found that Dandelion Optimizer (DO) outperformed other techniques, such as the Water Cycle Algorithm (WCA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and even a hybrid WCA/PSO algorithm.
