The paper proposes a new analytical model for evaluating shielding effectiveness (SE) of a rectangular enclosure with an aperture covered by a metal plate. The model is based on an equivalent-circuit approach, which allows evaluating SE much faster than numerical methods. It can be used when the plate and enclosure are separated by an air gap or when they are insulated with a dielectric gasket. Using this model and the finite element method, the SE calculations were performed for three enclosures in the frequency range up to 1 GHz. In all cases the results were shown to be in good agreement, as confirmed by the calculated errors and the FSV validation method. At the end of the paper, an estimate of the computational complexity and time cost of the model is given.
