In this paper, a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) based optimal control method is proposed for a variable speed wind turbine system. The inherent nonlinearity in wind turbine dynamics, attributed to aerodynamic torque, is addressed through the development of a T-S model. This model effectively captures and manages the nonlinearity of the system. Subsequently, an optimal controller is designed based on the derived T-S model, with the primary aim of enhancing energy capture by the wind turbine. To demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method, we conduct a comprehensive comparison with the standard Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) control. This comparative analysis is carried out through detailed simulations encompassing varying wind speed profiles. The results unequivocally highlight the superior performance and robustness of the proposed approach.
