When nonlinear loads are connected to an electrical grid, they consume distorted current, produce harmonics, and reduce the power factor (PF) which can negatively affect the quality of electrical energy in electrical grid. As a nonlinear loads and source of harmonic pollution, with a total harmonic distortion (THD) of 38%, low power factor, and weak efficiency, simple diode rectifier is now absolute. The main purpose of our work is to remedy these problems, by switching to IGBT or GTO PWM active rectifiers, we can solve these problems with better energy quality, however these rectifiers require robust control to stabilize the current waveform and generate unity power factor. In this paper we will study and compare two different control strategies: Hysteresis control and vector-oriented control (VOC).
