Research demonstrates improved corrosion resistance in fuel cladding under coolant loss scenarios, indicating new coating potential.
The results of research the corrosion resistance of a fuel cladding fragment with a chromium coating obtained by magnetron sputtering of an uncooled target are presented under the conditions of modeling a project accident as a result of loss of coolant. It has been established that the chromium coating, in terms of its characteristics, fully satisfies the requirements for coatings of full-scale fuel claddings and provides increased corrosion resistance both in the conditions of a project accident with loss of coolant and in conditions of short-term autoclave corrosion tests.
