Internal financial audit acts as the most important element in the structure of the state financial control system of the Russian Federation. Its main task is to identify and reduce budget risks directly during the execution of budget procedures, which emphasizes its preventive nature. In this context, coordination between financial control and audit, as well as identifying the features of internal financial audit become especially important for the smooth operation of state financial institutions. Based on the analysis of the regulatory framework and theoretical research, the signs of internal financial audit are identified, the functions and models of its organization are formulated, and the author's definition of internal financial audit is proposed.
