The transient stability of grid-forming Voltage Source Converters (VSCs) under grid fault is of critical importance to maintain the stable operation of power systems. Existing works enhance transient stability at the expense of the steady-state characteristics of grid-forming VSCs. In this article, a large signal model of grid-forming VSCs is established to analyze the transient stability of grid-forming VSCs, and a transient stability enhancement method through improving the Reactive Power Control Loop (RPCL) is proposed. This article points out that VSCs output voltage will decrease during the grid fault, which will continually affect the power angle response and lead to the deterioration of transient stability. In addition, the proposed method can compensate for the VSCs output voltage to enhance the transient stability. The validity and effectiveness of what proposed are proved by the experiments.
