Preceptorship is an important instrument for the professional development and training of residents in the multidisciplinary residency program, promoting the encounter between theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as the integration of residents with health services, with the preceptor being essential in this process. Therefore, for this activity to happen in a more assertive way, the person must be aware of the strengths and challenges of the residency program in which they are inserted. With this, the objective is to report the experience of situational analysis in a multidisciplinary residency program, highlighting its strengths and challenges. This is a descriptive study of the experience report type, which took place in a Teaching Hospital in the State of Pará. The activity was carried out by preceptors in September and October 2023. Through the program's pedagogical project, information was acquired from its main objective of training specialists in the area of multidisciplinary health, providing assistance to obstetric, gynecological, pediatric and neonatal patients, which associated with the preceptorship experience, managed to identify challenges, such as reconciling teaching and service, unmotivated preceptors and organizing the distribution of residents. As well as, by obtaining several specialties, the preceptor has a vast teaching area, contributing to the preparation of the resident. At the end, the relevance of preceptors in knowing, through the pedagogical project, the description of the institution, its articulation with locoregional health policies, flowchart and areas of coverage was evident, leading this preceptor to reflect on his role in this context. Thus, it is necessary for the program preceptor to have access and familiarization with the pedagogical project and, through a critical-reflective analysis, assume a supporting stance providing improvements to the program, as it is part of the teaching-service binomial, seeking to minimize challenges and improve strengths within the multidisciplinary residency, providing significant learning to the resident.
