The article considers methods of determining inconsistencies on the probability of failure of engineering systems and problems of their application in construction, analyses the current state of prevalence of these methods in the construction industry of the Russian Federation. Uncertainty and risk reduction options in engineering design processes are considered. The article assesses advantages and disadvantages of methods of assessment of efficiency of engineering systems: assessment of probabilistic risks (PRA), fault tree analysis (FTA), event tree analysis (ETA), modeling and analysis of reliability of Monte Carlo. The strategies of choice depending on the specific context of the analyzed situation and available resources were discussed. It has been suggested that the most comprehensive analysis of situations with combinations of several methods or their use in combination with each other. The article considers the importance of taking into account the complexity of the system, the availability of data and the desired level of detail when choosing the most suitable methods. The most acceptable approach to the organization of monitoring the probability of failure of engineering systems on the basis of maturity of analysis of types and effects of failures (FMEA) to reduce the identified risks is reflected. The advantages of implementing a monitoring and management system for engineering systems at the facility were discussed. It has been concluded that the introduction of a monitoring and control system for engineering systems increases the reliability, comfort and safety of buildings and structures, as well as reduces operating costs. It was noted that in order to determine the best method, it is important to take into account the specific objectives, available resources and complexity of the analyzed system. The assumption about the most effective choice of the method of assessment of the efficiency of engineering systems, which can be a combination of methods or individual approach, It is designed to meet the specific analytical needs of the facility to be developed and the subsequent intensity of engineering systems
